Safety Harbor Florida History

James MacDougald believes he is rewriting Florida history and adding more intrigue to earlier stories from the Tampa Bay area. Safety Harbor is located at 28 - 0047 - 82 - 6953 and is a city in the city of Tampa, Florida, USA, located on the west side of a bay. The town in the harbor of this bay of the same name is the almost untouched, far northwest extension of St. Lucie County.

The name Safety Harbor was first used in the early 18th century when pirates had a considerable influence in this area. Local legend has it that the name "Safety Harbor" dates back to the 17th century, when they posed the greatest threat to Florida's Gulf Coast. The early settlers called it Clear Water Harbor, which was known until 1895, when "Clearwater" became a word.

Spanish researchers in the region described the site as the capital of Tocobaga. Before exploring Florida, the "TocOBaga" (Timuquan) tribe is said to have fished and bathed in this spring water. Spanish accounts, other "Safety Harbor chiefs" named after the Spanish account, include the chiefs of San Juan, San Jose and San Diego, as well as San Francisco, Santa Rosa and Santa Cruz.

Safety Harbor's mineral springs have a long history of supposed healing powers, a legacy that has spawned names like "Health Giving City" and is called "The Health Giving City." The healing power of the springs was known before white settlers arrived in the safe harbor, but not until the 18th century.

The Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center connects residents and visitors to the stories that drive past and present through the two unique programs they offer, Safety Harbor Stories and Historical Markers. Art is a large part of the city, the public is involved in the exploration of our past and the museum and cultural center house events and events.

Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, now known as Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, is a prominent visitor attraction in Pinellas County. The end of the main street next to the spa also houses a number of restaurants, bars, shops and shops in the area and remains a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. At the mouth of St. Lucie Bay, near the intersection of North and South Main Streets, Safety Harbor is commonly referred to as Safe Harbor. By the late 19th century, the threat of pirates had disappeared and ships could no longer reach this part of the bay due to its proximity to the Florida coast.

The park is a perfectly preserved piece of Florida history dating back to 1787, when Odet Philippe was born in Lyon, France. It is named after Odets Philippe, who settled in Safety Harbor in 1830 and claimed to be Napoleon's surgeon.

Phillipe established a plantation called St. Helena at what is now Old Tampa Bay in the early 19th century. As one of the first European settlers in Pinellas County, he introduced cigar production in Tampa and was one of the first to grow grapefruit in Florida. He founded his own cigar factory in Safety Harbor and introduced cigar production to the world in Tampa.

French nobleman, credited with importing grapefruit to Florida in 1823, the first homemade safety harbor, formerly known as Worth Harbor or Green Springs. Philippe planted the first grapefruit Tampa Bay has ever seen, an award that has inducted him into the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame.

In 1823, Pedro Menendez Airles, his wife and two children came to Espiritu Santo to establish a settlement on the west coast of Florida.
